Pet Bereavement Counselling Training #01

Pet Bereavement Counselling Training

As a person who has shared companionship with animals since I was a child, I understand how difficult it can be when an animal, who individuals have formed a strong bond with, pass away or die/ become lost due to tragic circumstances.
I believe the bonds formed with animals and pets can be experienced by humans as stong in nature as those experienced within human relationships.

As a senior BACP Accredited counsellor and experienced trainer whose work in this field of practice spans 25 years, I currently provide distance learning courses for professionals and volunteers who support those experiencing pet loss or bereavement. If you would like to provide essential professional counselling skills support to pet or animal bereaved clients, in conjunction your volunatary or paid employment role, the courses are relevant to you and are certificated by The Cambridge Institute of Pet Behaviour and Care. CIDBT

What does the training include?:

Each course is structured in three phases, including project work and learning activties. Course handbooks provide guided reading and learning resources for the courses.

Unlike other distance learning courses in this area of specialised training the CIDBT Pet Bereavement Counselling Courses offer accessible and individual support from the course tutor and includes practical activities where students evidence their use of skills in supporting bereaved pet and animal owners. This is a distinct advantage over similar Pet Bereavement counselling courses where students are not required to practice the skills in role play activties with the course tutor. These practical activties are conducted online, so you can complete them using your home or work computer.
Successful completion of the CIDBT courses carries the endorsement that students can effectively demonstrate the required skills in conjunction with being qualified in the theoretical elements of this filed of practice.
A recent optional addition to the support students can access whilst studying on these courses is an online forum where reading and activties are discussed with the tutor and other students who are taking the CIDBT Pet Bereavement Counselling Training. This can prevent the sense of isolation that some students encounter when taking a distance learning course.

Who is the Pet Bereavement Counselling Training For?:

You may fall into one of the categories listed below and feel that Pet Bereavement Counselling is a feature of study which would enhance your role in supporting those who have experienced a pet bereavement:

  • A counsellor who would like to extend your practice to include pet/animal bereavement counselling

  • Employed in a professional or voluntary capacity where you provide support to individuals and groups experiencing pet or animal bereavement and are interested in training for pet/animal bereavement counselling

  • You offer support to pet owners who experience loss or bereavement in a voluntary or employed context and are seeking training which will help you to develop a deeper understanding in both the theory and practical skills required for this role.

  • To help decide if the courses would be of benefit to you I have included a sample of endorsements from students who have completed the pet bereavement counselling training:

"An excellent course packed with relevant material that follows a well thought out, logical flow. The tutor was available via email/phone at all times to support and help throughout. The contact via webcam towards the end of the course was extremely useful and helped to bring the course content to life. Knowing that you have been assessed in this way, helps to give confidence when it comes to real situations. I can thoroughly recommend the course to anyone who comes into contact with the bereaved on a day to day basis whether the loss is human or animal. And the recommended reading for the course provide a foundation upon which to build vital reference material."

"Having just completed the Pet Bereavement Course, I cannot thank Jane Evans enough for the support, encouragement and depth of knowledge she has taught me. The skills taught on the course went beyond what I was expecting; in doing so it has given me the confidence to support clients more effectively. A very enjoyable, informative, and thorough course for those wanting to make a real difference to how the bereaved owner copes with the loss of a beloved companion. I feel lucky to have been tutored by such a caring professional. Thanks to all at CIDBT "
